Now you can prepare to go outside and try it out.

If you are not using GPS, you are ready to go outside and start by using Designer Tools from the main mscape player menu.

If you then select Tools, Emulate Position Mode you can view the map and manually tell the PDA when you are in the region on the map.

Toggle between this view and the normal User Interface by clicking Back. This will allow you to 'move' around the map and to view the content on the PDA screen.

If you are using a GPS unit with your mediascape, read below before you go as the first time you go out you might need to try a couple of tips to get it working properly.

Help with GPS outside. Printable version

There are a few important things you'll need to check once you get outside.

Some of the issues to do with GPS will depend on the type of GPS device you have - whether it is plug-in one, a separate Bluetooth device, or you're lucky enough to have it built in to the PDA itself. To test the scape outdoors with the GPS device you may have to go through steps to connect the device and the PDA together - you may need technical help with this.

It is recommended that you do not turn on your GPS device until you are outside in a place that has a good view of the sky all around you - this is so that the GPS device can easily pick up a satellite signal. Check that you are clear of trees as well, as these can cause interference.

GPS signals can sometimes be a bit tricky to find, turn off and turn on your GPS device if you are still having trouble.

Once your GPS device has a signal, you can open the mscape player on your PDA and open your project

When you open the Client on your PDA and open your project (your script) it may ask you about connecting to GPS. If you have already paired your device you won't be asked.

Walk around in the places where you think you have located your regions. Are the sounds playing? Are the images switching on and off on the screen?

If it isn't working then switch from the main User Interface view to the Designer Tools map view (detailed at the top of this page). This will show you your map and regions.

Switch to Emulation Position Mode (from Tools) and then try clicking on a region to see if you can hear sounds. If you can't, check the volume is switched on high on the PDA, and that your headphones are also switched on.

You can click on Back to view the User Interface and see if the correct images are displaying when you enter regions manually.

Remember to take care when outside, especially if you have headphones on, take extra care crossing the road and don't look at the PDA screen if it isn't safe to do so.

Tips

Your images wont show when you are in Place view, you will have to be on User Interface view

Remember to be safe and be extra careful when walking outside when you have headphones on, and don't look at your screen when crossing the road!
